Please join us in prayer as Mennonite delegates from 10 countries around the world travel to Rome for continuing consultations on Mennonite-Catholic dialogue and peace. On October 18-23 the Pontifical Council for Promoting Church Unity will host Mennonite World Conference delegates for a church-to-church visit. A brief meeting with Pope Benedict is scheduled for October 19. The event is a follow-up to the first international dialogue, which took place from 1998-2003 and produced a 48-page report, “Called Together to Be Peacemakers.”
A second consultation on October 23-25 will aim to fashion a Catholic/Mennonite perspective on a proposed “International Ecumenical Peace Convocation.” Slated for 2011, the convocation will be the culmination of the World Council of Churches Decade to Overcome Violence (2001-2010).
Additional information on these important new opportunities for Mennonite-Catholic dialogue and collaboration is available in a Mennonite World Conference news release, available at http://www.mwc-cmm.org/News/MWC/071010rls1.html.
